Walleye are found statewide in large streams, rivers, lakes and reservoirs. They feed primarily on fishes, insects and crustaceans. Walleye are torpedo shaped with a large mouth filled with sharp teeth. They have large, white eyes and a single black spot near the rear base of the first dorsal fin. The lower lobe of the tail (caudal) fin and lower anal fin is white.
License & Regulations
A valid South Dakota fishing license is required for anglers age 16 and older. Licenses are available for residents, non-residents, and short-term durations (1-day, 3-day, and annual).
