- Thick, heavy lips Strong canine teeth found in both jaws, one pair visible when mouth closed

Size: Up to 125 pounds and common to 40 pounds

Coastal waters near structure. Juveniles found in estuarine areas.
Life History
Among largest snapper species. Not common. Feed on fishes and larger crustaceans. Spawning occurs in the late summer in the Keys.
