Spot are silver or bluish above and somewhat golden on the sides and belly with 12 to 15 dusky bars (stripes) on their upper sides. They have a distinct dusky to black Spot just behind the top of the gill opening on their body and their tail fin is distinctly forked.

Spot occur in coastal and estuarine waters. They are bottom feeders eating marine worms, small shrimps, and crabs.
